Set of British coins for 1939 - the year the Second World War broke out. The 12-sided nickel-brass threepence was introduced in 1937, but the silver 'threepenny bit' continued to be issued until 1944. There were also separate English and Scottish shillings! The monogram on the sixpence is 'GRI' for Georgius Rex Imperator, meaning 'George, King and Emperor' (i.e. Emperor of India).

Thanks jbuck, I do too!

Next coin up is a 1939 10 Rappen from Switzerland - pure Ni - mintage of 10,022,000. Portrait on obverse is lady Liberty.
Its interesting to look back at the history of the 5, 10, 20 Rappen/Centimes (whatever you want to call it) coins of Switzerland since they have surprisingly maintained the same design since the start of the Swiss Confederation in 1850. Officially, the Rappen coins made of pure Nickel from 1881-1938 have been removed from circulation because machines that use coins cannot detect them, but all 1, 5, 10, 20 Rappen coins from as far back as even 1870-80s are still accepted in general commerce and have not been demonetized.
