Re-searching through a tube I can across this BIE cent. I know there are varieties, does anyone know which one this might be?

These are considered errors, varieties are coins that have seen design changes before the strike. This particular error is interesting but nothing more than a die chip.

Thanks, but that didn't answer my question. I'm under the assumption Jean Cohen's book "The Classification and Value of Errors on the Lincoln Cent" list the progressions of the die break (the variation or progression aka variety)... I don't have that book (I think it was published long long ago) but had hoped someone did. ...I certainly didnt mean to confuse that with "die variety" which would be the coins we are all really looking for $$...but thanks for your point.

Your BIE is listed in Cohen as 57D-B449a. Description is "BIE. Upper 5 filled. Diebreak on right wheat. From the same die as B419." There should be a small die chip at upper right side of right wheat grains. The pictures match yours. Good pics, BTW.

I find BIEs very interesting, though the number of them for 1957-D is daunting. There are perhaps 60-70 full BIEs for 1957-D alone!

Me too and that's a crazy amount! I keep em all but haven't got around to tackling the numbering project.

Nice find!

The reason I don't get interested in them is that they are progressive die chips. Which means they will vary according to the dies age. (Getting larger as the die ages.)
