Found it through old stuff in the attic (from my grandfather) and have the following questions: - is it real? - what category is it (common, rare, scarce)? - what might be its value? Thank you very much!

Sorry to have bad news, but the numbers, letters, and design in general look wrong. I think its a fake. Here is info on a real Draped Bust Dollarwish this was after better results

Indeed I must concur both with a welcome and the unfortunate news. This is a counterfeit.
Some folks, like myself, collect them, but even then it's likely just a few dollars.

A bold as brass fake.
Which may very well be what it's made of. A jeweler can weigh it for you. It should be 27 grams if it's silver.

Yet it has 27g so at least it could be silver :)

It doesn't look like silver in my opinion. Some other metal.

That is the correct weight. If the dimensions and thickness are correct, it might be silver.

@Joe2007: probably. Anyway I weighed it this morning and it showed 27g. But if it's a cheap fake, why bother making it the exact weight?...

To fool people who have a scale but is unfamiliar with the series.
I bought a Morgan which turned out to be fake, it weighs 27g but does not sound like silver. The size is correct.

I found that purchasing a scale and a micrometer for about $30 was one of my better investments to detect counterfeits.

Based upon the existing design characteristics' elaborateness and/or wear patterns would it possible to ascertain approx. during what time frame the counterfeiters produced this fake: mid 1800s, late 1900s etc...?
