I haven't been a big fan of the seller. In the past he's listed mostly overgraded and overpriced stuff, although lately he seems to want to sell more coins. I think the surfaces of that coin look a little too scuffed to be quite worth the money, and I'd be concerned about the darkness at 12:00. But the pictures are far too small to get a honest look at the coin to tell you. Check out the full return policy, if it seems OK, you can always send it back.

I have to agree that ernie usually grossly overgrades his coins so I would be very careful and ask for better pictures before I bid on anything from him. In my opinion that coin looks more in the XF range than AU range
Now as far as HJB I would be happy to buy anything from them, if they say it is lightly cleaned you usually can't even see the cleaning without magnification. I see they didn't label yours as cleaned so it may be dipped at one time but you can almost bet it doesn't have any cleaning lines all over it like you may get from ernie

I've asked the ebay seller for better pictures, and he does have a 7 day no questions asked return policy. I took a break from looking at pictures online, and when I came back I'm noticing a lot of pits in the surface of this coin. I'm not sure I like it anymore. I found another, but it doesn't have the shiney eye appeal I'm looking for. I'm not sure what the dark area is? Is that some toning coming through or some nasty stuff forming? It would probably be blasphemy if I took this PCGS AU53 with population 12 and dipped it : http://www.vcoins.com/us/yellowrive...Product=1127

now that one I like, very very much so. As far as it not being shiny it is because what you are looking at is scans, I bet it has some luster still on it with the coin in hand. Scanners just don't do good with coins and luster

That is a much better choice. I agree with Bryan, scanners don't usually show the luster on a coin.

Is the better coin priced right at $785 shipped and insured? That's his best offer. The seller confirmed that it was a scan and that there is a lot of mint luster left on the coin.
Thanks again guys

Yes, I think so, as long as there's no restocking fee if you decide it's not right for you once you get it.

Thanks halfbust! I'm going to pull the trigger on this one even though it is more than I wanted to spend. I've been looking once every week or two for a Seated dollar in my price range with the look I'm going for, and normally I come up with nothing. The seller says there are only 100 Seated dollars for that year with a higher grade than this one, so the statistics seem to confirm why it's hard to find these! I found a new setting on my digital camera, so I'll take a stab at a picture once it arrives.

Another online seller with lots of coins is https://www.jjteaparty.comI just bought this coin from them, I'm only going for eye appeal and grade, don't have funds to go for low mintage year. You might fine good stuff there.

Thanks for the website Shatsi! That is one of the best online stores I've been to. Your Seated quarter looks fantastic! It appears that we're going for the same look in our sets, and like you I'm not going for low mintage either. I've went WAY over budget on my coins for my 7070 so far, so it's going to take me a LOT longer to complete the type set than I originally thought. On the positive side, there won't me much upgrading to do!
