I spent about an hour tonight waiting for my "shows" to start going through some of my "better" roll finds and it was cool seeing one after another after another of DDO's and DDR's and extra nice clashes etc,you get the idea. It gave me a boost seeing so many nice finds and I thought that if any of you were thinking of taking a break from the hobby, as we do every now and then, to take an hour or so and look through your "nicer finds" for that jolt to keep you going in the hobby. And for those of you who are currently on a break from the hobby to do the same, look through your "nicer finds" to give you that boost to get back in the hobby.Just thought I share my experience with the family.Well I have taken up enough of your time so back to your regularly scheduled programing John1

Could you shed some advice? I hunt for Lincoln Cent varieties so I go to the bank and buy boxes of pennies. Do you have specific banks you go too? I have been doing this for 2 years and still haven't found a DDO or DDR. I only find minor varieties $1-$10. What could I be overlooking? I would appreciate any advice :-D! I use a Bausch & Lomb Hastings Triplet 10x Loupe. I live in western Massachusetts could it be the area?

Sounds about right to me eagle eye. Most variety finds for me have been in that range. I suppose in the course of last year I may have found a handful of specimens that are upwards of that. But I oh do a box of cents every 2-3 weeks.

I go to "my" bank and get 10 boxes at a time(pre-order) and turn in the non-keepers to a different bank. I have been through around 3.8 million cents in my hobby of roll searching.Location does matter sometimes but may I suggest you study up on the minting process so you know what to look for.I am sure you will find some errors and varieties in time.Have you checked out coppercoins.com? Thanks guys. No I haven't checked out coppercoins.com yet but I have a few good books (strike it rich with pocket change and Cherry Pickers Guide). Ten boxes at a time?! How long does it take you to process boxes? I noticed copper is going up so do you pull the 95% copper and sell it off instead of turning it back in? How does the minting process affect searching efficiency? Right now it takes me about 1 hour at my lunch break to go through 50 coins with my eye loupe. Do you guys have a better system I can implement? Minor things I find often that I like to pull are: 1982 Small Date Die Rotation Errors 20 degrees or more Wheat pennies

Quote: I live in western Massachusetts could it be the area? Haha, really? Where abouts? Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post the town here, but I also reside in the hills of western mass... Chesterfield to be exact. (Lol, and I don't roll search cents so no need to worry there) I can't really offer up any advise, as again I don't search cents at all, I mean I've always got my eye open for the occasional WAM or the allusive '92 CAM, but only roll search halfs and only occasionally... Silver miner, lol. What are you looking for/hoping to find that's over the $10 range? Just curious as I've no idea.... *edit* lol, I probably shouldn't say this.... But I get most of my cents at estate and yard sales around here.... (I only pull wheats) I've just been adding them to a "rainy day" bucket, I'd estimate there's 2-3000 so far from this past summer alone, and since we've had the kids, I havent had a chance to go through a single one yet... Uugh. I've also been having great luck with my pocket change lately, two stores in particular I'm guessing someone cashed in "gramps coins" etc as I've been getting MS wheaties and circulated Mercs every time I buy something. On a side note, if you don't mind answering, how often do you get wheats back in change? I'm just curious as almost daily or every other day max, either my wife or I get at least one? Seemed odd to me as it's only been in the last 7 months or so? (And totally random, different stores)

Hahahaha nice. I used to live almost as far west as you could go (Adams) but now I live in Southwick. I want to find the following varieties: 1983-D to 1989-D RPMs 1992 Doubled Eye (and maybe if I'm incredibly lucky the 1992 Close AM) 1994 DDR1996 DDO1997 Doubled Ear 1999 Wide AM2004 & 2006 Doubled Ear Just to name a few :-)

Wow that is odd. I rarely get wheats back in change. In the last box I bought I found about 12 wheats out of 2500 coins. Great luck with the pocket change too. I find coin star machines are great coin sorters (if they people using they don't scoop up what the machine spits out). They don't take silver or wheat pennies or foreign coins! Some people just leave them in there maybe because they get sick of the machine spitting it out over and over?

I go through about one box per week, five rolls per day takes around one hour. I do not pull copper cents. Learning the minting process helps you learn what is and isn't a mint issue as a posed to PMD. You may be over looking DDO and DDR because you are not sure what they look like. The more coins you go through the more your eye will quickly pick up on the odd ones. Good luck on your CRHing. John1

Hahahaha thanks now I will see more people searching coin stars ;-) I shouldn't have shared my secret though! But honestly I have found silver dimes quarters nickels, Cud errors, steel pennies, foreign coins, and just free money in general. Someone left over $2 in change once in the top slot. Sometimes coins get stuck in the side of the slot and you can get them out with a key. The tumbler system is so precise sometimes it wont let a coin go through if it is too corroded. I honestly wait around if I see someone come by with a huge jar of coins and start unloading. Good luck at those coin stars!
