Since when does the mint use Fed-ex? Every shipment I've received from the mint has been via USPS, and was left in my mailbox. I bought a second set of the Pres. proof set, and this time it came via fed-ex with signature confirmation. Of course, nobody is home when Fed-ex delivers, and I couldn't even sign anything and have them leave it. I had to drive to the facility to pick up, which is not close to my house....

The mint goes with whatever service bids the cheapest, usually USPS, but Fedex has been used a lot more frequently lately. My problem with Fedex is the same as yours, I have to drive like 20 miles out to their airport hub to pick up stuff.

Wouldn't it be easier to ship to a PO Box?

As to Fed X, or however it is called, I'm suspicious of something. I mentioned this previously in a post. I usually order 10 to 15 sets of proofs and uncirc sets from the Mint every year for Christmas Presents. This year a Fed X driver pulled up in front of my house, a lady driver walked up to me at the front door and stated "Here are the coins you ordered". Now just how did she know what was in the box. It did not have a Mint return address. Just some place in Tennessee. So are they inspecting all packages? Are they opening our mail? Just how many Fed X people know what we are receiving? I live in a high crime area and don't like this at all.

I used to work for fedex (thats where I worked when I hurt my back) and I can tell you we didn't have to open any packages to know what was in the package, each package comes with a manifest and on that manifest it states where the package is from (not just an address) and even sometimes it will state what is in the package. I actually worked for the LTL (less than load) freight company that fedex merged with and not sure that is how the small package company works but I do know that the freight part had these manifests that had all this information on it, we had to scan these manifests with a bar code scanner and actually all the information would come up on the computer screen that was at every door so there was no reason to open a package to see what was in it even though some packages did get opened but onluy because the loader wanted what was in the package for themselves

I know in the past, every order over a certain amount is sent FedEx. These orders are usually for gold and Platinum coins.

Its unusual they are using FedEx for a $14.95 proof set.
