$500 1987
$50 1990
$20 1988

Thank you.

thank you, you helped settle a bet I win! Buddy thought his coins were worth several hundred each and I indicated they're less than $1 each, guessing at their value of course lol

Yup. The worst part of the deal here is that those coins are now obsolete. Mexico went to the New Peso in 1993.

Your coins are worthless since they went to peso in 1993 like kitty was talking about.

If you live close to to mexico Bordor you can take them to Banco of mexico and exhange them for new pesos. Here is the link to to what I talking . Its in english and its from Mexican goverment . http://www.banxico.org.mx/sitioingl...agedOld.html

I dont if you read spanish or not but I put in English for you. They have banks all over Mexico that will take when if search on there website. Bank of mexico is like the Federal reserve bank is in the usa.

I never tryed to cash in those old pesos to bank for new ones down there. I used live in mexico but I never needed to intill I found an bag full of those pesos in my collection of coins. Thats how I found that the bank of mexico still does it.

The exhange rate is about 11 pesos to 1 dollar on new peso these days.

Have fun Chevrolet454ss

They did a 1000:1 exchange when they revalued the peso, these coins are worth more in metal scrap value than they are for face value now like a lot of coins from Mexico from the 1970's on.

When the first nuevo pesos came out they had bimetallic 10 Pesos coin that had silver centers, those did not last long in circulation as the Peso lost value quickly rendering the even then low melt value of the silver worth more than the denomination of the coin.

only the 92-96 peso contained silver, 97 and on it's another metal.
according to wikipedia:
1992-1996 composition consists of the following:
Ring: Aluminium bronze (as 50¢)
Center:
925‰ silver (1/6oz)
75‰ copper
and 199 to present I guess,
Ring: Aluminium bronze (as 50¢)
Center:
65% copper
25% zinc
10% nickel

amac44 German Silver - contains NO SILVER what so ever. It is actually Nickel silver a metal alloy of copper with nickel and often but not always zinc. It is named for its silvery appearance, but contains no elemental silver. Other common names for this alloy are German Silver, Paktong, New Silver and Alpacca (or Alpaca). The Chinese forgers will call it Tibetan silver and a few other names hoping to lure in suckers.

Basically if you have a 10 peso Mexican coin, check to see if it's denominated as "new pesos" - "N$10" - those puppies are the ones with the silver centres :)

Don't miss the opportunity of searching junk boxes for these. I have found three of the 10 new peso coins with the silver centers in Pawn Shop junk boxes.
