A recent purchase of mine that I cant seem to find any info on! Its a 1963, Canadian Society of medallic arts, Chateau Ramesay medal. It consists of a pure metal, as it is marked .999 on the side. It seems to be lacquered silver. It also has the number "20" on the edge. I have found similar medals online but they are different patterns, weights, and are of bronze or brass and not .999. Any info on this piece would be greatly appreciated as I posted it in the wrong section (discussion). Thanks to all!

Diameter: 51mm
Weight: 65.17g
Non magnetic
hard metal (not pewter)
.999 & "20" inscription.

Well I appreciate the effort anyhow... Its just driving me crazy as I have been able to find VERY similar medals but always end up having different weights, colours, designs or dimensions.. its exciting at the same time because from experience little reference = small production, which ultimately means rare in my books...im wondering if the "20" on the side is in fact a serial stamp? If thats the case then odds are production never exceeded 100 units, maybe even less...and that would be right up my alley! Any thoughts on metal content? Theres no way for me to do a SGT on it as its lacquered and I dont want to submerge it..weight seems to reflect silver but looks very dull.. thanks for any further info!

Hi UncleLuc, It looks like oxidized silver to me. With the .999 stamp and consistent weight, I see no reason to doubt that it's nearly pure silver, which is pretty typical for a medal like this one. I wouldn't try to clean it though. The patina gives the design a pleasant 3D quality.
