Of the 24 were minted, only nine are known.
Do you have any educated guesses as to what may have become of the other 15? And what do you think the chances are that any more will be recovered?

ssssh. They are burried in a spam can 72 paces due west from the easternmost abutment of the Golden Gate bridge. But if you tell anyone I will have to kill you. I was sworn to secretcy by Robert Franklin Stroud on November 20, 1963.

I think that it's possible a few more will turn up.
With all of the hype about collecting nowadays, someone may be inspired to take another look at "that rare dime Dad put in the safety deposit box."
EDIT: Woah. 900 posts.

I would think some actually entered circulation by human ignorance. If people didn't realize what was actually in dad's collection after his passing and spent them, that could explain some of the 15.

In his book on the coin David Lawrence traces the production of the coins and the destruction of the ones for assay. He accounts for all of the reported mintage. It is unlikely that any more will be showing up.

Guess that role of them I have may not be real. I would think some are either in someone's collection, a box,can or jar in someone's closet. Hanging from a charm bracelet on some kids arm. Or just gone forever melted down to make Silver Bullets for the Lone Ranger.

My feeling is that if they haven't shown up by now, they never will.
Some coins just vanish. Like the ones in the sofa cushions or under your car seat. And I think an actuary would say that the longer you wait for something to happen, the less likely it will happen.

Your best shot at finding one would be unsearched junk silver dime hoards. Extremely unlikely, but if one creeps through that is where it would be found.
