I've never seen toning like this on a nickel before and am hoping you all might be able to help grade this and tell me if you've ever seen anything like this before. I'm most appreciative. Thanks!

I'm not a nickel specialist but the piece looks cleaned and retoned. It may have traces of gold plating. Just my opinion.

I came across a half dollar that had been plated and looked like that. I agree that that may be remnants of old plating.

I've seen nickel tone every color of the rainbow. I'm not sure if this coin is original or not.
Hard to tell but my guess would be cleaned/retoned.
I'm at AU55 details.

AU-55 details. it was gold plated at one time, probably has a lot to do with the toning you see now.

Don't know what happened with this coin but tend to like nickels that are toned. A lot of people prefer them white though so it works out when I buy them in lots and sell some off.
