Is the proximity of the 9 in the date to the bottom denticles also a marker for near/far leaf? Seem to remember this from another thread. Thanks for this informative post 47P7.

Like SilverDon I read in an old post that the distance of the 9 is an indicator. If so, I think I just cherry picked a SF Far in a lot of coins on ebay earlier this week. To me it is "clear" that the 9 is far but it is hard to argue the maple leaf is far. Opinions? Grade?

Thank MM
Have never heard the 9 to be a marker to indicate a Mule. Sorry, but yours does not look like a Mule.

I have found that the width of the rim (from where the denticle branches off to the edge of the rim) is a great indicator. Look at the near leaf......it is not the leaf that is nearer to the denticles (the leaf doesn't actually move positions on the coin in a near or far), but the other way around because of the width of the rim.
I hope that I explained that in a way that is understandable.

The bottom of the nine almost touches the rim denticles in the NSF so look at the top scan as this is a marker.

Can someone please post how many NSF vs. SF mules have been graded by ICCS?

The markers in this thread are the easiest to use. The flared "I" becomes very obvious when you look at enough coins. Price wise, mules can be easily obtained for 40% trends, even less sometimes in lower grades. Little harder to find above AU. Many collectors will agree that these coins are more common (especially the SF/FL) with well over 300 coins ICCS graded between F-EF. Good informative post.

TheCoinHunter - Thanks for the info on SF/FL ICCS population. What is it for NSF/NL?
Is this a NSF/NL?

Sorry for the late response to this. the Numbers for the NSF/NL are slightly over 100 in the same grade range.
