I would also like to know more. It seems some coins are outstanding and others are very pixelated. It can really be hit and miss. I've really started liking coins that use color to accent the engraving. One example is the 2013 partridge in a pear tree. Another wonderfully colored coin is the 2013 half color O Canada maple leaves. Yet other coins you can see pixels unaided.
@ silver Don, I have one of those cheapy, iPhone scopes. It has given me hrs of enjoyment and mine was like $6. I used it on lots of other stuff too. It kept me entained with taking photos. My iPhone is full or coin photos using the scope and a scanning app I discovered. Both of them have proved to be a blast. It's one way I have a ton of fun with my coins. If you have any Great Lakes coins use the scope on them, it's amazing what's revealed. I'm sure you'll enjoy your scope.
