I'm wavering between F15 and VF20. Love this No Stars issue.

F-15 However, a very good candidate for VF-20.

F-15
I think this is the small date based on the shape of the 1.

Quote: Love this No Stars issue. Me too. I've been looking for one of these myself. This is the way that Gobrecht intended the design to be. Quote: looks so naked without stars!! It was meant to look naked.

This is a link to the Liberty Seated Collectors Club: http://www.lsccweb.org/I had the opportunity to sit in on the inaugural LSCC/BCCS kick-off co-meeting* at the Manchester Coin Show back in 2011. The "large/small' date 1837 was discussed. I came away with the information that the SIZE of the '1' is not at issue. Rather, the 'shape' of the initial stroke was the key: - or / . Is that your understanding, MeadowviewCollector? I bought my example that day and later bought an 1838 with stars for comparison. Boy, Half Dimes are TINY! --- * The regional outreach meeting to bring our resources to those who cannot go to the national shows.

Yes, I didn't do a very good job of clarifying that. Here's a PCGS showing the difference http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/D...4311?redir=t
