Hello ! Here is the secret Siliqua Emperor Magnus Maximus (383-388 CE) Mint: Trier, 2nd officina Size: 17.5 x 18.6 mm. Weight: 2.05 grams. Obverse: Head of Magnus Maximus right, with DN MAG MAXIMVS P F AVG around. Reverse: Roma enthroned, head left, holding a sceptre and a small figure of Victory set on a globe, with VIRTVS ROMANORVM around, and the mint mark TRPS below. Magnus was the last major power in the Western Empire , never again would Rome be able to exert it's full authority over Britain and the Rhine frontier. After his defeat at the Battle of the Save in 388 ,the Western Legions began to rapidly "disintegrate". Though the real death blow for them was at the Battle of the Frigidus in 394.

Very nice coin. I don't have any of these just too expensive.

Quote: I don't have any of these just too expensive. You have that right. It doesn't help the price that this guy only ruled half of the Empire for only five years. It's because of you though that I got it. Thanks Echizento

Enjoy your coin. You should have shown it in the GTE thread first - why do all emperors of that period look like they need an optometrist?

Thanks for sharing. Nice coin! Like echizento, a bit up market for me. I have a siliqua, representative of the denomination, but it is only of a lower grade, and with a small chip.

This coin makes him look very young and thin. Compared to others which make him look very similar to Valentinian I I wonder what he really looked like

Thanks Med. I will need to pick that book up in the near future. For the moment I was thinking of adding another one of Magnus Maximus. Removed the pic Med. ( don't want any competition for it )
