they are teddy bears with a Statehood Quarter in the foot.

hope that helped

Thanks to both of you.

It sounds like a marketing gimmick, - though if it were intended to attract children to the hobby, perhaps it's not so bad.

Will there be more coin-toy/animal hookups in the future ?

Numismatics is a little different in the UK, I can't imagine this happening here, though as we seem eventually to import every US marketing idea, it'll probably come.

It was definitely a gimmick. These where highly promoted and sold by the TV shopping networks at high premiums.

I'm sure we haven't seen the last of these.

I don't really think these were aimed towards children because I think most TY beanie baby collectors are middle aged women. These beanie baby's are about like coins where certain ones sell for allot of money and I just don't know of any kids that would be able to afford the most collectible ones (even though I think their popularity has dropped off a little in the past years)

it is exactly like spider said. if you want one just tune your tv set to the coin shoppers channel (i don't watch so I could have the name wrong)
anyway you can still get them there for about $50.00 or more per bear lol. also littleton coins sells them too and there is another company that sells overpriced stuff to I think the name is ICC or something like that.
good luck
