I was looking through a bag of my old junk silver dollars for VAMS and this coin really caught my eye!

Any thoughts?

Or am I just making very distinct design elements out of bag marks?

I couldn't really capture what I'm seeing with coin in hand in the pictures.

However the rim has the appearance of being doublestruck in collar!

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated! - Clark

Hopefully the members who know about these things will chime in when they have a chance.

The forum had been suffering from a DDOS the past couple of days which made it difficult to access the forum and reply. Things seem to be working okay now so eventually someone will chime in.

All I can see are a few circulation dings and the designer's initial at the bottom of the neck. What are the features that make you think it double-struck?

Sorry for the poor pics.
With coin in hand, I am clearly seeing an M, the exact style and size of the designer's initial, in the field opposite the upper front neck area.
And I can also clearly see at least two, maybe three, faint profile features (lips, nose, eye) that seem to have been struck (partially out of collar) prior to the final strike (in collar) with slight CCW rotation between them. The extra device features are also proportionate to the original device design.

The obverse rim is beveled and nearly non-existent with the reeds touching the denticles, while the reverse rim is flat with a wide gap between the reeds and denticles.

I'm not an expert, but there is definitely more going on with this coin than just bag marks. JMHO

I'll try to upload some better pics in a few.

By all means, let's try to get better pics. No reason to arbitrarily pronounce it all PMD based on these images.

Keep in mind the strongest of a multiple strike is always the last one, so to transfer the features as you're seeing, the centered strike has to somehow he the last one. The first, off-center strike would still have to fit in the collar.
