In ancient Greek mythology, Hera was the wife of Zeus and Goddess of women and marriage. In tribute to Hera, The Perth Mint has issued a rimless, high relief, antiqued coin made from 2oz of 99.9% pure silver. This clip offers insights into the processes used to strike, clip and apply the special antique finish to each coin in the mintage of just 2,000. Individually applied by hand, antiquing adds deep tone with a unique grained effect on the surface of each coin for an aged appearance.
I would have liked the obverse to be in the same style as the reverse, but that would not have suited the requirements of the sponsor of this issue, namely Tuvalu.
In addition the coin would then be a medal, but it would have had even greater artistic merit.
I have only bought the first coin in the series, Zeus. The first three coins in the series have a release of just 1500 coins. I'm glad that they made this beautiful series available to 500 more collectors.
The only one I have is Hera....and she would love to have her husband by her side. The coin "piggy bank" is low on funds right now but if you ever want to sell Zeus let me know junior~!! I will be restocking the piggy back later this month
Debrajc, as You know, it is an expensive coin. As a member of CC I would knock off $50 from what Provident Metal is charging. I would have to send it registered, so basically if I knocked off $50 and charged You for Registered mail, it would be like I'm covering shipping. It is expensive, but some people are already asking $1000, and I believe that it may end up twice that as big money moves in to complete some sets. This series is going to be one of the rarest modern releases that I'm aware of. If You are going to buy the Zeus, mine is perfect and so is all of the packaging, so Your rare coin would really be a nice one anyway. I think it would grade at a minimum of 69, and probably 70. It's nice. If You PM Your email I will send You great photos of Zeus and his boxes.
I just emailed you back junior!! VERY interested! I have an aol email address so sometimes there is a glitch with this and other forums tho. I hope it gets to you!!
Yeah, I may as well hang onto the stupid thing. It has gained about 40 years of interest this year at current bank rates. Considering the 95 W Proof Silver Eagle has sold for $26,000, anything is possible. Thank You for Your interest Debra. The prospect of selling it was exciting, but since I don't let PayPal collect half of my profit, I do NOT want You to be nervous or uncomfortable for even one second. I think that I'll just make ol' Zeus a member of my permanent collection. The reason that prices are so high is because people who don't believe in the long term viability of this coin are pocketing the easy money. I think that the price on this coin has a lot of upside, so He''s going in the safe with my cream of the crop coins. If I were You, keep an eye on Provident Metal, because they are one of the few dealers who are actively pursuing this coin, and they will have more soon, and they DO take PayPal, which will help You to relax with the transaction. Thank You very much Debra.
what makes these coins so appealing ? i understand why people collect old coins and rare coins. but these coins are pretty expensive for silver arnt they ?
It's the 1500 produced. Really low mintage, and it looks like they are going to run this 2 ounce Rimless Antiqued series for possibly years. The first releases are the expensive ones. Providence is selling Zeus for the high $700 figure, so it isn't a fluke.
They must have sold out. I looked tonight and they had none. Provident has really been the only dealer to mess with the Zeus coins, so they must be buying them right. I've seen them move probably ten of them in the last six months.
