Well I picked up an ace 250 today and tried it out as soon as I got home. new batteries and all. I keep getting alot of false signals tho. ill get a beep over an area once and then thats it.. I go back over that area 10-15 swipes and cant get another beep.. thats one issue.. another is, after some frustration I came home and swiped it over a penny I had and it read as a dime I'm still new to detecting so any thoughts/comments about this would be great. btw the Ace 250 replaced my tessorro conquistador cause I thought it would make finding coins easier.

PS my "BIG find" today was a 1939Jefferson

Ace's are great but you need to do certain things to make them live up to their potential.

The cable from the coil to the display box needs to be tight and not loose. If it knocks against the pole on the end of a swing it will give a false beep. (took me a long time to find out about that one)
Do not swing more than about a foot per second or it will miss targets.
Have the coil about a foot above the ground when turning the unit on. This helps the unit calibrate itself.
Set the sensitivity no more than half way up the scale.
New pennies will show as dimes about 50% of the time. the older copper pennies will show as pennies. there is a difference in tone between a zincoln and a dime but you need practice and headphones to tell the difference.

Hope this helps

nohope.. this does help, especially about the pnnies reading as dimes, I was ready to take the machine back. as for the swinging I think I'm doing that just fine. and turning it on about a foot above the ground is new to me also so ill start doing that. thanks alot for the advice!

Congrats on your new toy Crash. Looks like a nice rig. My whites don't have a dime so the dimes read as copper pennies. I have had mine for only a month and still have a few things to figure out. Mine does the same thing with the beeping only once, but only if its an item that is discriminated against. I did notice that about it. If it hasn't been discriminated against it keeps on beeping. When I am around playground equipment I have to turn the sensitivity all the way down so I don't pick up the concrete footings. Well anyways good luck.
