I have this 1864 Civil War Token

very light weight. Plain smooth edge. and when dropped on a hard surface it sounds line an aluminum or tin composition. The Date has a broken 4 which I have seen on copper issues. And the Bottom of U in Union is Broken.

Does anybody know what exactly I have here? And maybe a rarity?

the die pair looks like 49/343 and according to my book of Civil War Tokens, it was produced in copper or bronze, brass, and copper-nickel. Yours may be the copper-nickel and the book doesn't say anything about its rarity

Would a copper nickel feel so lightweight? it doesn't sound like a modern dime or quarter either. I just weighed it and It weighs 1.76grams

and you are absolutely correct with the 49/343 it matches 100% Plus it also has the die rotation that I noticed through a heritage auction slabbed by NGC. I strongly believe this is not copper nickel, though. IMHO Just going by weight and sound.

49/343 just to give a visual. Mine does have that same rotation on the reverse. I should have photographed/mentioned. But thank you for pointing this out!

It was the position of the star above Liberty between the 2nd and 3rd feathers that pointed to die 49.

agreed. It also shows similarity in the face of liberty. The obstruction over the upper earlobe. Also star 5 is not touching the feather and star 12 is not touching the hair. There is an evident seperation between those star points and Liberty

It's highly possible that the token may have been plated sometime in the past... On the UNION FOREVER side, there is some coppery coloration where the original copper is showing through
