Well Kanga, I would have to say it was probably stolen somehow. It should have turned up if you misplaced it.

I managed to lose an 1861-S Seated Half in strong AU for 3 years. Didn't find it until I unpacked from my recent move - didn't know where it was but I managed to pack it anyway. Quote: Actually, I don't remember. So if I did lose something, I won't know if it's lost... I know, right?

I haven't lost a coin but I had puppy damage! I purchased a very unusual piece of New Zealand Exonumia; A Bank of New Zealand gold test piece from the Thames Gold mining region( 19th century). The dog was very young... He had seen me examining it. I went to get a coffee and came back to find the puppy had nicked it ( and its flip) off the desk and was happily chewing on it. Thankfully it was gold I straightened it out between the pages of a large dictionary. It still has some dents that match puppy Canines. The really annoying thing is it is the only example known to exist! This was the worst case of "The dog ate my Homework" I have ever experienced!

I have never lost anything important, but I have misplaced (or accidentally spent) some ultramodern hole fillers over the years. Not fun when you get home and realize you had something.

My early Lincoln Cent collection disappeared when we lived in Lake Stevens, WA. Have no Idea why it didn't make the move to Maryland at the time. But then, even I really wanted to stay in that beautiful place near the North Cascades.

The Story of the 1886 Liberty V Nickel(VF - Retail $460+\-) At first I never knew it was missing. Then I knew it was lost. Took 4 days off work and turned the house upside down. No luck. One month later.... Wife is cleaning the house. She comes into the living room and says: "I found this nickel under your computer keyboard; is this the one you were looking for?" I'm overjoyed! Life is good! Wife gets taken out to dinner for finding husbands little nickel. The end.

I haven't ever had a time when one of my coins has been officially "lost", but temporarily mislaid? Yup! My storage methods are in need of improvement, as I have coins all over my room. They're in tubes, 2x2s, red boxes, coin boxes, and binders. You should see my desk! So its not uncommon for a couple of my coins to go "missing", but I've never lost one yet.

OUCH! It takes SO long to find a VF 1886 nickel! My tale is that of an ( and only ) Indian Head $10 piece. "It's not lost, it's here SOMEWHERE! During my convalescence this past summer I did some housework, cleaning and such. I pulled out a little chest of drawers and what was on the floor? Yep! Safe in its flip and none the worse for the wear. Now, just don't ask me where I put it. A few Indian Head cents are here somewhere, along with three Flying Eagle cents and my Canadian nickels. Lost? Who was it that said: "I was never lost, but I was once a bit bewildered for several days." Will Rogers?

I have many times had coins missong in my collection ...most times I found them. One I have not found ...missong 25+ years. 1892 Barber half dollar on AU. Last I saw it was in a small box with other coins ...and odd things like Brown bear claws and a $300 divers watch ... I moved around a lot ...20 years in the Air Force. Still have to many boxes packed way ... Someday I hope to find it ....but I have looked very hard. ..I did find the receipt from when I bought it.

I came home from work one day to find my son had rummaged through my coin box. (he was around 3-4). After picking everything up, I couldn't find my 1890 PF63 RB Indian cent. I found it more than 5 years later in the back corner of a closet!

I lost a gold coin one time... evidently I had several coins out on the desk and when putting them back in the safe, it fell behind the desk.... sad part is that I didn't know it was lost till I found it when we moved a year or so back. I need to be more careful. I know when I found it... but no idea when it was "lost".

A couple of years ago, I bought one of those "Liberty Dollar" rounds; a regional dealer was selling them for just a shave above bullion value. I took it to show off at a coin club meeting, then apparently I put it away. Unfortunately, I have no idea where I put it; next time I wanted to look at it a few months later, I couldn't find it. It's not a coin, so I didn't put it in the coin albums. But it's not really a medal or token either, so it's not in those albums... One day, when I get some of that "free time" I hear people talking about, I'll go through the whole collection and discover what I did with it. Assuming, of course, I didn't lose it in the coin club car park.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

I have been collecting since the Mid-60's. in all my years I have misplaced a few coins that turned up in another box or a good hiding spot that I completely forgot about. The biggest and only one I cannot find to this day, is a 1794 Starred reverse large cent (maybe AG-3/P02)I lost it in 1993. I had only opened my small shop 2 years before, and through the years I have searched everywhere. I was going to show a friend one day at my business and I could not find it, but told him it's probably mixed in one of my boxes or shuffled around in the safe. I never did find it after tearing apart the attic, cellar and every nook and cranny in the shop and the house. To this day, when I see him he asks "do you have anything unique, like a starred reverse large cent"? we laugh, but I will always wonder where it went. I still look from time to time, but I have moved twice so I think its lost for good.
