A few years ago, I found a 1983 DDR001 Lincoln Cent in a roll.

A month or so later, I lost it.

Anyone else ever lose a coin that was valuable or important to you?

I had a mint state silver denarius of the Roman Emperor Hadrian (117-138 AD). It disappeared from my collection and I couldn't find it anywhere.

Two years later it did turn up, in a small plastic ziploc coin baggie that was in a bag of all my empty coin holders in the bottom of my bedroom closet.

I certainly breathed an enormous sigh of relief and have learned to keep a much closer eye on my coins.

I lost a 1662 Charles 11 Crown in F, at my mother's house, where I was re cataloging my collection.
I found it 5 years later, when I was cleaning the house out after she had died.

Yup, exactly what I do. I have lost or misplaced coins - in some cases, some I really love.

I have learned my lesson big time so now, right into the safe they go - now I know exactly where they are.

My dated silver kopek of Peter I disappeared a few months after purchase, and I didn't find it again until a year and a half later.
Then it disappeared again soon after, and I hadn't seen it since (but still hope to find eventually).

There are many other coins I've lost for long periods of time, and a few that I still can't find; I do, however, sometimes find coins that I almost forgot I lost (as well as coins I never knew I lost, and the occasional coin I don't remember getting at all; I still don't know how I originally got my bicentennial half dollar).

Actually, I don't remember. So if I did lose something, I won't know if it's lost...

if this counts: I dropped my pocket piece (1969 voyageur) in Toronto Island. Too bad, because I had grown pretty fond of it, carrying it around for over half a year across the globe and back again.

I lost an 18/17-D Buffalo nickel about 3 months ago somewhere between Texas and Arizona. It was in my briefcase when I left Texas and wasn't in my brief case when I got to Arizona. I miss it terribly. It was a fine to very fine coin with a reverse planchet flaw that would keep it from a clean slabbing. I "only" gave 500$ for it but it sure stinks to lose something like that. I hope whomever found it appreciates it!

I was delighted to get a 1987 Hanukkah 1-shekel coin while on vacation in Israel. On my return, I sorted out my Israeli coins and left them all on a window sill for s few days before putting them in my collection. When I sorted the coins out, the 1987 shekel was missing. I think my cat may have jumped on the window sill, knocking the coin onto the floor where it got vacuumed up...

I had a original 1938 proof set disappear for about five years, I misplaced a couple of chain cents for a couple years (I'm fairly sure I know where they are now), and I've had a silver penny of William the Conqueror disappear that never did show up again. I'm sure there have been others.

That's brilliant Peter!

My collection is quite small so I've never actually lost a coin. But I have occasionally wondered where one has gone to realise I sold it a while back and forgot to update my records!

Doh!

I lost my first Wheat penny I ever found as a kid, a 1940 plain. I think I was going through all of them a long time ago and kept the one that looked the best, but hopefully, I'll find another one since I still don't have any from 1940 even today.

I lost a LWC coin roll hunting the other day. At first, I thought it rolled onto the floor but it wasn't there. While turning in my cents at the coinstar, I noticed a 1952 D staring me right in the eye and I grabbed it right before it went in the machine. I'm just glad I haven't had any other coin go missing!

I had a complete set of Liberty V nickels in a Capital Plastics holder that went *poof*.
The early keys were only AG and most of the rest were Good (I think there was one Fine in the set).
And that was years ago.
We've moved since then and it didn't show up so IMO it's truly lost.

Even in AG those two early keys would have been worth $200-300 together.

It ain't easy to lose a Capital Plastics holder of that size but I did it.
