If it is cleaned they certainly missed a lot especially on the reverse. Copper is a bit brighter in hand.

IMO the differential toning is strictly from handling, not a cleaning. The areas close to the devices are in naturally protected areas.

I completely agree with kanga (and CC2012 while I'm at it). This is much the same thinking one applies to circulated Seated coinage, in terms of the darker look of the patina.

I'm on board with everyone else, it doesn't look cleaned from looking at the photos.
Looks like a very attractive, evenly worn and circulated big sister to me.

Thanks. I really want to like this coin, but it's so much brighter than my others. Guess I'm biased toward the dark ones. Here are some more pictures I took with a flash to try and show the red more. Do your opinions still hold? Thanks. Ed

My opinion stands, because I know how destructive a flash is to the natural look of a coin.

OK, thanks. Looks like I have a better coin than I thought. Not bad for $7. These large cents have been more of a learning experience than any other type of coin so far, with so many different colors and surface conditions ...not to mention the attributions. But it's all big-time fun

I was going to say not cleaned as well but I am not the authority on it. Face is a little chewed up but definitely a good deal at $7. A dealer I go to sells them in a box for $10 like that.
