I was going through some uncirculated State Quarters and came across one that was missing the reeding about 1/4 the way around. Most of the way, it's normal, but gradually fades to nothing and then back again. Coin looks well struck otherwise and is normal weight. Sorry, don't have a pic at the moment. Is this common? Should I save it?

Kind of like this?

Or is the area in question just worn flat? Images would be great.

looks like pix are disabled for a while, but I'll post them when it's back up.

Not wear as it's uncirculated. Got a closer look when I took the pix. Part has the typical partial collar look with the reeds only going part way up and then reeds fade and disappear completely for almost 1/4 the way around. Then they come back and are totally normal until they reach the partial collar part.

Could be a tilted partial collar.

Here are pix. It looks like a tilted collar. The area with the double reeding is where the rim is wider and the missing reeding is where it is thin. Sorry for the poor focus on the edge views. It's hard to control the focus on my cell phone. It looks like George is smoking, but that's just an odd spot on the surface.

The collar was not located in its normal position. Nice find.
