Can anyone tell me what this is? I believe the counter stamp reads "A.BAILEY", but I'm not completely sure. Is this a merchant countermark, and if so, what for?

This is a token rather than a coin and was known as the Pineapple Penny. The very interesting history of these tokens can be read on this link:-

The counterstamp of A Bailey was most likely that of a local merchant.
