Not quite the luck I was looking for...
I found a few pieces of construction trash and one authentic four-leaf clover...maybe I should just stick to using my eyes! ;)

Welcome and congratulations on your new hobby!

I myself just began metal detecting a little over a year ago. Aside from your 4-leaf clover find, the 'art' of hunting has nothing to do with 'luck'. I've found a handful of common coins in nearby parks but I am still hoping to find the 'mother-lode' one day. When I first started hunting I had dreams of finding silver every day. After all, I kept seeing stories online from many hunters who had almost unbelievable success.

I finally learned, though, that success only comes from the hard work of training. The 'winners' have spent lots of hours looking through old books and maps to learn where the best places are to hunt. Naturally, the older the area the better chance you have to find older coins, etc. Unfortunately, the best area near me is in Detroit, which is not a super-safe are to hunt in.

Anyway, I still hunt on occasion, and still enjoy it. Not by finding rare items, but it's more of a relaxing period on nice days. Good luck to your future hunting!!
