I did not find this coin.

I would have loved to have found it. I bought it uncleaned on ebay from a metal detectorist who lives out east. From the auction photo it looked pretty nice and I was very happy how it cleaned up with just a soak in hydrogen peroxide and a nylon brush.

It must have been close to new when it was dropped.

This is keeping my going until the ground thaws here in SE Wisconsin in another month and a half. The other day I drove by two houses that are just about to be torn down and am praying that they aren't until spring arrives!

I agree that it was fairly new when it was dropped . looks like the peroxide worked well.
I'll have to try it this spring.
Rest in Peace

Interesting, is this method an ok thing to do?

I've been cleaning bronze/copper ancient and modern coins this way for years and have never had any problems with it.

The bubble-action of the peroxide does a great job loosening dirt. All of the cents I find metal detecting are cleaned by this method.

The nylon brush doesn't harm the patina.

I also use a bamboo skewer to work out dirt from the lettering.

I stopped ruining my coins using the peroxide/olive oil method. Totally darkens the coppers...now it's only a mineral oil soak for me.

I've never had an issue using peroxide. I've used it for years and never noticed any darkening on coins.

Sorry Paul, I meant it was the peroxide/olive oil combo that was darkening the coin, not so much the peroxide itself.
