Hello everyone!

I have gold coins that I collect for bullion only. I have read numorous articles and posts about how to store your valuable coins with non PVC products. So,my question is, I have coins thst are old but, just bullion coins like sovs, rands, pesos, and francs. I store them in BCW archival safe 2x2 20 pocket pages and archival safe 2x2 cardboard flipsw/ staples to close. Both products claim to only use polypropylene. Are my coins in any danger? The coins were a couple bucks above spot and really only have gold content value, so would cardboard dust or staple breakdown over time really matter? I like the 2x2 cardboard flips because it centers the coin compared to the Saflip holders I have, where the coin moves a lot in the flip......Any feedback is much appreciated!

You're in good shape. Ever tried to tarnish gold? Unpossible; it's a noble metal. There is slight danger from the alloyed copper, but generally gold coins are the easiest to protect.

Gold bullion coins are valuable enough to store in hard clear acryllic screw capsules. They come from proof sets that are broken up by dealers, so it follows that a coin dealer is the place to buy them. I get any size I want for 50 cents each.

22 ct. (.917) British gold guineas can acquire an 'old gold' tone, but that takes at least 200 years.

So I'm assuming staple rust on the 2x2's would only really hurt non gold coins, like silver etc?

Staple rust should not affect any coin inside a cardboard 2x2.

I have been using Mylar / cardboard 2x2's for over 40 years, without even the slightest problem caused by staple rust. If you store the 2x2's properly, you shouldn't get staple rust anyway.
Nevertheless, I don't use plain steel staples.
I use copper plated steel staples.

Yes corrosion from staples can spread to silver or other metals...

Most gold coins that aren't .9999 have some level of copper which could react but the gold itself would be inert.

If you're finding that your staples are rusting...

#1 remove them...
#2 start storing your coins in a less humid environment there's obviously some water/moisture issues
