Every year I attend a large coin show (Bay State Coin Show) that usually has at least two large dealers who specialize in paper money. At each show I typically pick up a bunch of lower cost items for my type album and one or two higher end items (such as a Buffalo Note or a $2 Educational Note).
This year, I think I'm going to keep my eye (and wallet) open for one or two special notes that I previously felt were out of my price range. I'm thinking a $5 Educational Note or a $5 "Porthole" note if I can find one or the other for around $2000. I have no idea whether the dealers will even have those available, but here's hoping.
If I can't find either one of those at a price I can afford, I might decide to dip my toes in the error note / fancy serial number pool. I'm always on the lookout for interesting bills in my change, but never seem to find any.
How about you guys? Any specific collecting goals for this year?

Well, that's in the coin forum. I was hoping to just talk about paper money...

All the regional coin shows I've been to, although small, I've yet to see a $5 Porthole. That one might be a tough one to locate, especially one for your price. They generally seem to be very worn or high grade when I do see them. You might have more luck with the $5 Educational. Heck, maybe you'll get lucky and find one of each for $1000 a piece! I found a nice $5 Porthole last year at my LCS and bought it right away. It was a good price and the condition was better than the $5's I have seen on ebay. (Pictured in my signature) One note I've been looking to get is the 1922 $100 Gold Certificate. That one has been on the want list for sometime and I'm hoping 2015 is the year I can mark it off the list. I've also been looking for a nice 1882 $20 Gold Certificate that wasn't used to clean a dirty window and isn't overpriced. I recently ventured into early small-size star notes. Particularly FRNs. I'm looking for the mule and non-mule stars in $5-$20 denominations. Those have proven to be hard to find too, especially certain districts. And as always, if I come across something cool and have the extra money, I'll buy it!

Looking for a 10c Series "C" Western and Atlantic Railroad note. It's the only note I need for a complete denomination and series set of the notes.

This year I want a 3rd. charter $ 100 National Currency bill and I want a 3rd. charter bill from Bismarck, North Dakota. A dream would be a 3rd. Charter National from Hamburg, Iowa.

My goal for 2015 is to add a few more nice colonials & high-grade fractional notes to my collection at a reasonable price.
