Greetings.
I am looking to buy another coin after my Magnus Maximus Siliqua.
Like the Emperor on this coin I like to throw money at things .
So is it genuine , and what would you pay for this coin. ( a just price)
Thanks guys and gals.

Seems to be Sear#470 from Ravenna. He mentions that there can be variations in the legend (yours is missing the 'S' at the end of the name). Have a look at the Wildwinds site at the type.

The Constantinople type with this reverse has no split in the obverse legend.
Sear also mentions that #470 has a well defined annular ring on both sides (as you can see on Wildwinds).

Better go and check the various sides with reports on fakes - can't make a judgement if genuine or not.

I wish I had your money, buying any gold is out of the question for me so I don't even bother keeping up with them. The coin is genuine IMO. No idea on the price though.

Looks real to me too but then I don't own a single gold coin or know much about them. I have seen a lot of ancient gold coins but haven't studied them much.

These tend to be light on ones wallet. The seller listed it from Constantinople Med. Still looking around on the internet .

The seller probably assumed that CONOB always means Constantinople.

I think you are right but I would like others to chime in .
A Ravenna mint issue would be a once in a lifetime for me.

So how much would this be worth if it was from Ravenna ?

Since Sear's book is from 1987 those prices are not relevant. But his prices for Tremisses from Ravenna are double those of Constantinople for Tiberius II Constantine.

Will have to wait until VK and the rest of the crew to chime in before I buy it . But if it is a Ravenna issue I will snap it in a heartbeat .

Good to know that you don't trust me on that one.
But let's see what their comment is one it being genuine.

Wonder if someone else will notice that it's not from Constantinople and search it out.

If you are desperate for a coin from Ravenna, there is a Solidus from Honorius on offer for a measly 900 Pound: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-HONO...360874351740
