If you are going to flip it I would have it graded, if your going to keep it to fill a hole, I would have it graded (peace of mind). Reselling, then PCGS, keeping it then maybe ANACS. either way it would be authenticated.
It looks legit to me. I don't think it would get a details grade, and I think it is a strong G6, and possible VG-8 maybe catching a break for such a key coin.
Just my opinion, I am sure others will have some good advice.

I don't know too much about grading silver dollars but in my opinion it's a VG-10. also it looks genuine to me. if the experts say it's not a fake , then by all means have it certified, slabbed and graded. where did you purchase it ?

The coin looks authentic to me, and yes, by all means, get it certified. Oh, and thank you for posting close-up shots of the date and mint mark. That REALLY helps!

Thank you all for your input. I live in the Tampa, FL area. There is a local ICG office that I could walk in. What are your thoughts on ICG? How do they compare to PCGS, any major difference? This coin happened to be a nice ebay find today and the price was just right. Again, thank you all.

You should by all means walk over to ICG when you get this in hand and have it authenticated.

Definitely get it certified, even if it goes "genuine". 1893-S is a coin where the first question is its authenticity.

Thank you... I will take it over to ICG as soon as it gets in to have it graded.

Curious, rum. Does that ICG office do same day grading and slabbing? I may take a few Morgans there during next years FUN show if they do same day.

IMHO a VG-8, and a decent looking example at that, what with the even wear on both sides. There appear to be some abrasive lines, possibly from a scrubbing, most noticeably across the date. Looks genuine and it's certainly worth slabbing. Also, NGC isn't too far from you, rum, is it?

I believe when ICG does local shows you can pay for same day grading. They grade it in front of you. I am not sure if the office does same day, though will look into it... Yes, it appears there is an NGC office in Sarasota, FL. That is not to far from Tampa. In regards to grading and market value. Who would you say would be best, PCGS, NGC, ICG, ANACS? Thank you
Oh, and what does "CAC" mean on coins. Would this be a candidate, and is it really worth doing?

It took guts to pull the trigger on a raw coin like this.
For reselling, probably best in a PCGS holder. Sorry, I don't know anything about CAC.
