I was told by a coin dealer that the value of the Liberty Walking half dollar is down these days. Is that true. This is a coin I collect due to its beauty and because it is a silver coin. Has the price of silver dropped sharply?

My LCS is paying $5.00 on Walkers and Roosevelt common circulated for his 90% junk bin. It has gone down a bit lately.

I seldom pay attention to possible differences in prices of any particular coin. Yes Silver is done again. So is Gold. So what? I collect coins, not Silver. Regardless of what a Walking Liberty half is worth, if I need it for my Album, that is all that should be and is important.
IF your into collecting to someday make a profit, your in the wrong hobby.

It is kind of goofy because the price of gold has stayed around 1150-1250 an oz. for a while, but a $20 double eagle is still worth way over its actual gold scrap value. It is a beautiful coin, and is worth more than 1 oz. 50$ gold bullion piece. I do remember buying sterling silver trays, ornaments, teapots etc. ten years ago for small money. I could have filled a room with silver for $200,000. I didn't, of course, or I wouldn't be crying now. Who can predict the future? My wife liked to buy these cheap 14 carat gold rings back in early 2000's. She bought plenty and they are worth a lot relatively speaking. I was dumb and she was smart because I sold all my silver at a loss and she kept her gold. I think collecting beautiful objects should be its own reward. I am not trying to make money off coin collecting. I could buy stock and make 7-10% a year just to hold it. The idea of money is not the same as a coin. When we turned money into paper trash I think we lost a lot.

Can I have this guy's phone number? I'll sell him all of my circulated Roosevelts for $5.00 each, that is 50 x face value.

Roosevelt is on the dime and Ben Franklin is on the half dollar.

Melt value of 90% silver coins at $16.69 is $11.93. If your local coin shop is paying $5.00 each so that is a fair price.

The price of common circulated walking liberties are largely tied to the price of silver, when silver is up their price goes up, when silver is down their value also goes down.
