I must get a life!!! This evening I decided to try something different with discussions of High Mega pixel cameras I was intrigued to see what a medium format 60-80mp coin photo would look like. I don't have a medium format camera but I do have a full frame one. Add in a bellows with shift I had a means to produce a simulated medium format macro. I have no idea what the actual Mp equivalence is ( I am just guessing it might be close to 80 mp. I set a 50mm macro lense at the lowest magnification on the bellows that would allow shift. I then photographed the left 75% of the coin three times taking a top left middle left and bottom left photo. I then repeated the same process with the right 75% of the coin. My aim was to ensure each photo had plenty of overlap with the others. I then used the photomerge facility in adobe elements ( I also learnt that I need to up grade the Ram in my PC). The result a 11545X 11245 pixel image of 69.4 mp. I have no idea if such a photo is of any use....I only wanted to know if it could be done. The coin is a 1750 Graz mint half thaler (33mm in diameter. I have no idea what the actual magnification is... all I know is with my steam driven PC I won't be doing this again in along time!! LOL To do this correctly I should have divided the coin into 9 photos not 6.

Now imagine what you could do combining stacking and stitching.

I created a 100MP equivalent stitched image here about 3 years ago.

If I can think of it..its already been done LOL
I didn't reduce the image size before photo-merging. Thinking about it...for a coin show display that sort of picture would make an amazing backdrop..mine is 97 by 95 cm ( just under a square metre) in size...yours must have been huge

austrokiwi - Looks pretty darn good.

Have you looked into PhotoshopCC yet? The photographers deal is the bomb diggity bargain at $10/month or discounted for a year upfront, for Photoshop and Lightroom together, I now have them on my Mac laptops and my Windows desktop for one price that totals in a year, less than upgrades used to cost on just one machine.
