The 1979-D cents had many dies made with a damaged punch until it was replaced. So you see this often on then cents and other denominations.

Coop - what do you use to differentiate a damaged punch from an RPM?

When you look at these for this year, there are many different dies that look the same because of the punch. So when you look at coppercoins, you will find for this year none with the split lower serif. There are a few listed, but none for the just the lower serif. The ones listed are split on both serifs. (Also you can see the same thing on all denominations for this year.)
