It's starting to turn silver and purple? I hope I got the right acetone. There's copper flakes floating or some kind of glitter the rim is turning into a silver color.

I'm not sure how long to leave it in, but I think your only supposed to soak for an hour or 2. I've never used the stuff before. Just watched on t.v. shows. Like the curse of oak island.

Just a short soak - say 20 minutes - should loosen stuff -- and then you may need to repeat with fresh/clean acetone.

It sounds like stuff is coming off already so apparently something was stuck on that coin.

People do weird stuff to coins. Go figure.

This penny turned purple/black the rim was silver but when I took it out after drying it turned orange. Lot of flakes or glitter in the acetone, it looks deface. I will show pictures when I get home. The word liberty is now flat. No more cracks just lines the look copper, all the letters and numbers still look copper but the background is black/dark purple.
Rest in Peace

Sounds like it was covered in something -- glue or whatever. Don't know why it changed color.

It's a puzzle.

But a fun one.
