I am underwhelmed by the design of the Little Rock Commemorative Dollar. I get the impression that most people are. Do I buy one, since I think it will end up with a low mintage? Do I pass, because of the underwhelming reason it will end up with a low mintage?

I cannot say feet did much for me either. It is a worthy event to commemorate, especially when you factor the contributions each one of the 9 individuals have made to society since then by getting an education.
I know some of the individuals that participated in the protests at the time are now ashamed of themselves for the imagery they created by yelling, screaming and taunting the nine, so those images would not be appropriate.
So in essence while a worthy event of commemorating, I don't know what image you could use that would evoke the event without offending someone or another, other than using feet. Perhaps by that measure using feet in the design and showing nothing more was appropriate.

Bilbo, If you are not disposed to buy one at this time, bide your time and you will be able to find them on ebay at less than the issue price. This has been the history of Mint issued items that were not very popular with the collectors. I thought that once the anniversary day came for the Little Rock anniversary, that the price and demand would greatly increase, but I was wrong on this one.. I have some put some Coin and Medal sets away unopened in the original mint shipping box for my descendants, so do hope the demand and interest picks up on this commemorative set and the silver dollar.... Bilbo, I heard back in July, that the mint sold over 50,000 of them.

I agree that it's not one of my favorites but bought one anyhow. I guess I would have to include myself in the category of "people who buy whatever the mint puts out." I read about these people and always think "I'm not one of those." However, I guess I am.

I also was underwhelmed with the design. However, it is a significant period in our history. It depicts the 'Little Rock nine'. I am not sure any other depiction would have been satisfactory. For what is worth, I purchased three...One proof and two uncs. I sent the two uncs to PCGS. One came back MS 69 and the other MS70. You should buy the coin only if you like it and want it. I happen to like silver dollar commemoratives. Some are worth melt only, some are quite valuable. All are worth collecting. All say something a little about who we as a society are. For me, that is pretty cool.

I guess that all depends on whether you collect coins for fun or as an investment. I collect coins that I like, therefor the future value doesn't really matter to me. I would never buy a coin I didn't like unless I knew I could sell it for an immediate profit which I would then turn around and use to buy a coin I did want.
