Hello,

I was recently searching for a comprehensive list of variety coins with their approximate values and photos.

Obviously, many sources of information exist for this type of knowledge but two of the more reputable and free sites I dug up are the following:

1) http://www.ngccoin.com/coin-varieties/

2) http://koinpro.tripod.com/ErrorVarietyList.htm

My intention is not to promote anything or anyone but instead to provide pictorial and relative financial data to be used in making informed conclusions etc...

Using these two sites together should at least give the numismatist a jump start.

If anyone should have awareness of other informative photographic analyses & accompanying values for all types of coins(foreign and domestic), please insert their URLs here to establish a one-stop-shop, womb-to-tomb CCF thread for the variety/error junkies...

It's quite daunting collecting world coins.

The KM catalogues are very useful for beginners until you discover that the prices are long out of date and they don't tell you where to find the mintmarks. Some varieties are listed but usually not in enough detail to make a definite identification.

Lots of countries have specialised catalogues but many don't have illustrations of varieties and very few collectors could afford a book for each country, let alone shelve them.

So pictures of varieties and the normal are extremely useful.

The above are useful references - more please, especially for other countries.
