Poll Question
Hello CCF , I saw an ad in a local coin magazine which offered to sell one (limit one) random date Standing Liberty quarter for $4.00. Another ad in the same magazine advertised to sell one (limit one) random date Barber quarter for $4.00. All dates for both would be visible and at both would be at least AG-G condition (minimum; grade is random). Silver prices for quarters are (as of 2/14/15) $3.12, but I think the numismatic value may cover the rest. I think. The thing is, from what I can tell, this is one of those things where the seller pulls from a pile at random, so I don't know what I would get if I were to buy. THE THING IS, I want to buy because I don't have either kinds of these quarters and am really on the fence. Poll: Should I buy the quarters? (give reasons too, or just general comments) I have really been thinking about this, but I am sure that CCF can help me out on this one EDIT: minor clarification with coin grades

I would be intetested to know what they charge for shipping....if its $8 flat for both, then do it. If you end up paying $3 shipping for each, then I.would pass. I'msure if you tried, someone here would trade you or sell you both for reasonable sum.....good luck whatever you decide.

If shipping is free, or maybe $0.99 then no problem. If it's $3.65, then it eats up the good price.

Well, it is the same seller for BOTH (from what I can remember), and all I send them is the cutout/scanned printout of the advertisement, fill it out (asks for address, etc), and place the money in [what I can safely assume as] an envelope. The shipping might be a stamp or two, but that isn't too much of a big deal. Also, yes, I could trade with members here, but I am exploring my options

Read the fine print. A lot of times advertisements will have low cost but then subscribe you to a on approval service.

I know. I don't think these have those, and even if they do, I can always manually unsubscribe. I am (if I buy) paying with $8 cash, not credit card. They won't be sucking my money any time soon

It's not that good of a deal. I doubt you would be very happy, but then I may be cynical. Don't forget low grades do not have the amount of silver content of when issued.

The fact that the limit is one, it might be a come-on, so they can get some personal information. I'd steer clear. You can find some deals just as good on ebay.

Although you don't have either, I would save my money to get two nice ones better than the AG-G they are offering.

@edweather Maybe, maybe. The coin magazine in question is " Coin World" and I saw the ad in the March 2015 edition (which bore the title "Dime Time"). @Nickle Guy I don't think I mentioned clearly, but AG-G is the MINIMUM guaranteed grade. The actual grade of the coin you will receive is RANDOM, so it could be AG/G up to XF/AU/etc and anywhere in-between. It is basically a "surprise package" of sorts; you don't know what you are going to get. @Night Hawk I would...if it was open. He "closed down temporarily" because he will lose big money with the silver prices. That, and he actually changed location to down the street, so he is probably still getting settled in. I will be fair and give anyone else a chance to chime in before I make my decision.

@Mullen lol I cant argue with that. I bought 6 random silver nickles once on ebay and though one was an album filler, all of them were OKAY (not bad, not good). @nysilveryears Are you joking that you could be willing to sell me AG/G coins for $4 all day long, OR are you being serious and actually want to sell me F/VF/XF coins? I can't tell if you are joking or not.

Regardless of the price, why buy anything sight unseen. You wouldn't buy a car without seeing it, so why buy even a coin, any coin, without seeing the exact coin?

@just carl Well, that is a good point. It is all a gamble; I could score or flop. Still, I hatched a super master plan. If I wanted to, I could go around my college's vending machines and slowly accumulate quarters and, when I have enough, I could buy the silver quarters. That way, I don't use any of my "real" money, but just money I found and is at no expense to me (per se). I have gotten some very good points and I thank everyone that typed their 2 cents. I will leave the poll open and thread for anyone else that wants to chine in. I am open to all opinions. Thanks
