Hi. I will appreciate very much any information about this type of buttons. They are similar to pillar dollar coins but made of bronze or white metal.
You can find them in Spain but they are a common find along the east coast of USA and also in Mexico.

See http://artifacts.org/patriotic.htm for more on these artifacts. You have a cast one-piece imitation pillar-style button the size of a medio which may have been used with a mate in pairs, linked together as cufflinks, or in singles as a cuff button. I understand buttons the size of a one real would be used on vests and the size of a two reales on the coat tails.

Thank for information, although I already knew that interesting web.
I am agree with you, Pistareen, I have recorded sizes about 15-17 mm (1/2 real) and 26-29 mm (2 reales). And finds (USA) from Florida, Maryland, Delaware, N. Carolina and New Jersey; so they seem to have been very popular along the east coast.
That of the pictures was made in a three-piece buttons mold (see the seam in reverse.
