Odd coins to put together a set.

1909-VDB are scarce, but available, but the sellers want crazy prices. Same as the 1909 and 1916.

I have been shopping these for several years.

Go figure.

I've finally decided to "finish" my set with these nine pennies. Got the books for reference. Made up my mind to shop for Brown or Red/Brown in the PR63 to PR65 range. Now just a manner of finding them. Looks like the best chance is one of auction houses. Does anyone have other suggestions? Is anyone else attempting this and how's it going.

Been working on this set since 1959, so I don't expect overnight success.

A collection of these will only go as far as your wallet. They are rare and when they do come up they can be quite expensive.

Have you tried searching via Collector's Corner? http://www.collectorscorner.com/Cat...tId=46&pId=3

All I did was went to the link above and typed "Matte" in the search box and it popped up a few results.

I was working on this series about five years ago just before the big run up in prices. Prices are coming down a little bit now.

You'll still pay some good money for the 1909 VDB, 1915 and 1916.

Patience goes a long way in this series, eye appeal is king.

There are some coin dealers who specialize in this series like Brian Wagner and Andy S. at AngelDees.

If you listen to this weeks podcast of The coin show, Mike and Matt talk about the matte lincolns. Very expensive set.

It's a great set for the experienced and "advanced" collector. There are so many niches with Lincolns, that you could spend a lifetime in the series and not do it all.
