I thought this was an interesting Franklin. It's been sitting in a very old flip with very old staples and I believe due to the staples rusting, the coin has toned a nice champagne color. While the pictures don't show it well, there is some wonderful luster on this coin. Would appreciate everyone's thoughts on a grade for this one. Thank you!

Coins like these are tough for me because I don't like toning in general, and even less so when it's uneven and spotted. Reverse could be a 63 except for some very noticeable scratches and hits on the bell. To me the obverse looks AU 53 but could be MS 62.

I quite like the overall effect, but believe it's the "normal" silver sulfide sort of toning. The darker dots would normally detract. Here, they're more like freckles and leave the impression of a coin which has been held for a long time. It's appealing.

Grading blast-white Franklins is difficult for me, much less toners. All the same, the overall appearance of the marks make me think it circulated for just a bit.

with SsuperDdave AU-58 because of high point wear and chatter. Toning looks natural to me.

Very close to mint state but probably saw brief circulation as noted. It does appear to meet FBL requirements; the 1948 coins tended to be better-struck than many of the later dates.

Pretty coin.

Sorry Joabler no FBL. The bell lines meld together right next to the bell crack which is typical. I have a similar 48 Frankie that everyone in the modern grading forum thought was FBL but I knew wasn't.
