You know when you've found a doubled die. Nice find. I had to buy mine. Not many Philly cents make it here.

Indeed! My son took a look and instantly noticed the 'funny looing letters'. "They look thick!" His own wording - made me chuckle thinking how many times you've told the community here to look for the thick devices. I've poured over many 1982s: first one I found. I posted in the grading section since I'm not that confident about giving it one. I tend to be conservative.

Because the large date copper cent for this year, the thick normal devices were confusing many. So it was probably one of my first Side-By-Side images I created. So when you view them side by side, now I see it:

Because of this die, I started making other dates with side by sides and even wheat DDRs side by side. While it looks like the same thing you see on machine damaged examples (some may think) the width of the devices are the sure indicator that it is a doubled die. One I have to by when a seller presented it to me.

I check the local LCS for anything that they might take in with a collection that they purchase. Nothing so far, but hoping that when they do present something, I have the option to purchase. Right place...right time. Can't fault you for that!
