I don't think it's been cleaned, the scratches look like die abrasion from the mint. John1

Indeed. Not cleaned and the reverse has heavy die abrasions. Light scuffing but a few dings and dents.

Sorry. I just thought that the color was a bit weird for being in such condition.

XF. The steps aren't complete & his beard blends into the field. Also, he's got a few chunks missing from his face.

AU-55...but I've seen TPG's put Memorials like this in MS holders. Those a die polish lines and the obverse die is late state, reverse mid-late. Very typical look for 1982 coppers. The Mint ran these dies as long as possible and polished them frequently.

Thank you everyone for the assist. I was in between XF and AU, but I thought I'd reach out to those of you with better experience.

Not MS60 for sure somewhere in AU range in the lower range.

Heavy Die Abrasions don't really count off a coins grade. The do affect the over all appearance of a coin which could swing a boarder line coin. With that being said I counted about 10+ or so "dings" I would put it in the AU range. You are lucky that the coin rolling machine that got the "ONE C" in the words ONE CENT...didn't go all the way around the coin....Nice Find
