Okay, here's a little coin I've had for quite some time.. (no pun intended) I pulled this out of a box of stuff no-one else wanted when my great grandmother passed away. It was already taped to the card you see it on. Seems to be some sort of prize for some silly contest, as it says on the top.

I included a dime along with the card, just so you could clearly see just how tiny this little oddity is.

It's gold plated, and so small, it's metalurgical value is probably less than a random piece of my computer... and, I doubt very much it has any worth to collectors. I just thought it was unusual, and that I would share it.

It appears to be a mini coin. I have about 10 of these in different denominations. I find them really interesting since they are produced in just about every denomination and they are so small. I have seen Indian Head cents, Buffalo nickels, and Morgan dollars. This is the first St. Gaudens I've seen.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

It probably isn't worth much but it is cool none the less. I do appreciate you sharing it. Every little bit I can learn about anything related to this hobby helps me out so thanks again!

I have a very similar one; I bought it from one of those mail-order dealers here in Australia back in the 1980's. IIRC, it was marketed as a "jewellery miniature replica" coin in 8k gold; they were selling other famous world bullion miniature coins, too - Mexican 50 pesos, British sovereigns, kruggerrands... the USA one was the only one of the "set" I bought.

Has that poor thing been stickytaped onto that card?!?

Yeah... it's just got regular scotch tape keeping it on the card... that's how I got it... it doesn't seem to be doing anything to the coin. It's been there for at least 20 years, and hasn't discolored at all... Besides, I'm some-what hesitant to try and remove it... who knows, the gold plating might come off with the tape. Or the card could tear... I know it has no real value, but still........

I am not sure that it is gold plated. I have one the same size as yours and it is 14K gold and is not plated I got them from a family member of my wife's she also gave me a set of Krugerrands the same size and they say 14K on them. it is not a lot of gold but they are solid for what little that counts for

Quote from the back of the card:

"This golden reproduction of the famous 1908 U.S. Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Piece has been electroplated with genuine 24-karat Gold; The finest quality gold in existence"

So, it is definitely electroplated... though, the interior may still be an inferior gold I suppose.. it doesn't really specify what it is. *shrugs*
