I acquired a 1947 'Dot' variety silver $1 housed in a 1st generation ICCS holder. Upon closer examination, I noticed the coin is also a DHP variety (but not noted on the comments). Secondly, the inner holder is starting to split open along the seal.
Should I send it back to ICCS? If so, what would they likely do: re-grade it, amend certification, re-seal in new holder w/ original/new cert, or do nothing at all?

The grade nor the picture will help you answer the question. Which I can't answer myself by not knowing the answer.

I won't have time to take pics until the weekend. The coin is graded MS-60.

there is a dilemma because your coin is one of probably a handful in a first generation holder which in my opinion makes it a piece of Canadian numismatic history but on the other hand the coin may upgrade if resubmitted raw, assuming the crack in the holder is minor I personally would just be careful and avoid handling it. having a coin in the first generation will bring a premium from the right person.

Not knowing the answer myself, I'd likely call to find out - I'd hate to lose the original certificate.

Sorry to ask but when you mean first generation do you mean that the number of identification includes only one letter in front?

Thanks Dollarman. Yes, the crack is minor (along the inner perforated-looking seem, and not big enough for the coin to slide out of the inner holder). I didn't realize there was a demand for 1st gen holders. Any ideas how many are out there?

Boro: it's 2-letter, with embossed seal on certificate and single line of text at the bottom.

Chequer: I tried that a few times, but no luck getting someone on the line.

Thanks skip79.
The only few times I called and I got an answer was in the morning. Not too early and not too late. Around 9h30/10h30(eastern time).

@Skip79...Nice pickup , looking forward to seeing pictures when you get the chance. ICCS only takes phone calls before 12.00PM ET. You can call between 8:00AM and 12:00PM ET and they always answer calls in the morning only. I also think you probably should have the dollar holder replaced. If the inner seal is broken the dollar may no longer be in a air tight seal. It also does say on the newer ICCS flips "Have holder replaced if inner package/seal not intact". BoroLeColon...Here is a picture of the old and new style ICCS flips. On the left is the "old style embossed seal" ICCS flip, and on the right is the "new style" flip. Glad to have you here on CCF.

Wireman09 thanks for the clarification. I do own several ICCS coins but none like this flip. And you told youself, why not show my nice MS 50 cents 1948 :P... Nice too :) Also the paper color isn't the same. I did notice that on some of my paper flip as well. Glad I signed up too. Fast answers and nice people!
