I haven't searched a box of nickels since I completed my circulated Jefferson set about a year or so ago, and while doing that, I searched probably around $3,000 worth of nickels, never finding anything other than Jeffersons. Today, I got the feeling I should go get a box, so I went to the bank and purchased one. Inside, I found 11 Buffalo nickels. They are as follows:

1938-D
1937-D
1937
1936-S
1935 (2)
Five dateless (4 P, 1 D)

I really wish I had asked for two boxes now. Oh well, this is still cool! I'm considering using Nic-a-Date on the dateless ones, but haven't decided.

Nice! I had always hoped for a '38-D for my "years with denominations that switched design mid-year" collection.

Nice finds!! I used the vinegar/hydrogen peroxide method on some dateless a few days ago. 3 of the 5 dates appeared... Mostly faint but they are still there.

Nice haul.

However if there is a matching box out there it may be half away across town from you and was dropped at at who knows what was the next bank or McDonalds on the armored cars route.

Indeed Jack - I went back and picked up the 2 boxes my bank had left after finding 18 buffalos; one 2014 solid, the other didn't have any buffalo...just a 1950D. That said, I'm sure that they were part of the same mix where someone's collection got dumped. As noted, you have nothing to lose, so shop around. Good luck and nice lot of buffalo skyshark!
