I ordered the Jefferson gold "spouse" coin about a week ago, and the form online said that they were "backordered" and were not available as they had all been presold. I didn't expect to actually get one from the mint, but look what was just delivered by FedEx ...

Well,-This-Surprised-Me!

Purty, isn't she ...

That looks great. Are you doing this for fun or an investment? I think that these are going to rise in price like the 1999 Silver Proof Set

I believe this is definately the spouse coin of the series to have (if you are only going to buy one) as far as possible gain in value because the bust coins are so popular

I just got mine today too. I ordered her 4 hours after the sellout and never thought I'd get one. A lot of people must have cancelled their orders.

They are beautiful!

That is such a nice-looking coin that I went online the day I saw AuldFartte's post. The US Mint site said the Proof was sold out but the BU version was listed as "availability uncertain", or something like that. I placed an order, not really expecting to be successful. Well, today the carton was waiting for me at home!

Maybe I should pick up a few lottery tickets today. I'm feeling lucky!

Very nice coin. It just goes to show that the Mint has the ability to produce great looking coinage. I may go after one of these myself. Mike

That has got to be one of the best designs the US mint has put out in decades. Simply incredible.

All we're missing is a strawberry leaf, a pole and a cap.

As much as I admire the coin, consider this:

Thomas Jefferson was devastated by the death of his wife Martha Wayles Skelton Jefferson who died after giving birth to their sixth child, Lucy Elizabeth (1782-1784). Jefferson wrote little about his wife's death, making this entry into his account book on September 6, 1782: "My dear wife died this day at 11H -45' A.M." More than two months later he haltingly wrote to a French officer and friend, Marquis de Chastellux (1734-1788), that he was... "emerging from the stupor of mind which had rendered me as dead to the world as [she] was whose . . . loss occasioned it."

In my opinion, Martha remained more a first lady to Jefferson than Liberty, but it's still a nice coin. There are other side topics to delve into as far as Jefferson's personal life, but Liberty was the safe pick.

THANK YOU FOR RE-REMINDING PEOPLE OF THIS FACT!!
That's a very lucid incredible view of Jefferson and the love of his life !...WOW !
I get so irratated at people who just "snicker" that he was having sex with slaves and procreating outside of wedlock and he was this "philanderer"........and maybe "Sally" the slave girl and he did have a mutual affection for each other.......but not enough is ever said or discussed about this woman he married and had 6 children with........
You just made my day by reading this !......thank you !
