I see people posting that they found several NIFC halves in a box, but do they come from a book that isn't sealed? It would seem unlikely that several people would all be cutting their sets open like the proof ones, so I'm guessing they come in a place that they can be easily accessed.

It has to be people buying bags and picking out the best and dumping the rest.

I've seen pictures of mint rolls and a certain year on them so people must be spending those.

Probally rolls or dealers cutting up proof sets, mint sets. I got several proof dimes in junk silver boxes that way. I found two nclt dollars in bank rolls and two proofs in dime and cent rolls. It happens a bit I believe.

From time to time when I ask for half dollar or dollar coins from my bank, I'll find a NIFC coin. Haven't found a proof yet but probably 3-4 halves and gold dollars. Agree with Bud250r and Bertensgrad that it's likely spent rolls/bags or broken up sets.

NIFC come from mint rolls that collectors can buy, cherry pick BU examples, and dump the rest.
