Hi Folks, Terry has come up with a very neat and beautiful creation here. I received my all walnut, skillfully crafted ANAC's display holder yesterday. It is really practical and well made. I slipped my MS64 1908 no motto St. Gaudens into the holder and now display it on my desk!
Terry, I think you are on to something here. You could make a holder to display, side by side a slabbed 5 or 6 coin type set. I will rotate my ANAC's slabs in and out of this one every month or so. I will be ordering a few more for gifts.

I really like what you have come up with. A dealer could use these to highlight certain coins for sale, without much risk of one slipping into someone's pocket. Security aside, it is a very classy way to display a coin and the walnut actually "enhances" the beauty of my Saint! I will post a picture of mine soon. Mike

Mike, I would suggest you wait a few days and see what Susan has coming next! I look long and hard for each and every piece of lumber I buy, usually one board at a time, and you will be amazed at whats in the mail. As always, would like opinions, from time to time on what I am turning out and what wood REALLY makes a statement. Have some very very rare exotic wood in route but it may be too costly to make these holders out of. I keep thinking RARE wood should hold a RARE coin but don't know if I can get collectors to think the same way. I guess when one searches for years and spends his/her hard earned money a few more bucks to display their pride and joy wouldn't be out of line? Anyway, I have lots of other ideas but I, at this time, am trying to make them simple yet presentable, without adding to much labor time onto these small, but (in my humble opinion) needed, projects!
Rest in Peace

Terry, I love the walnut holder that I bought. The darker color contrasts perfectly with the color of my Saint. Darker colored coppers or deep toned silvers may look better with a natural oak finish or maple. Teak left natural would be nice also. I would stay away from the softer woods, although some pines take stain very well and show great graining detail. Mike

Well Mike, I DON'T do stain! I am more of an old fashioned guy and like for the real wood to do the talking. Haven't owned a can of stain for years and years so you don't have to work about pine. I do have some spruce and some Alaskan cedar lying around somewhere! I prefer the rich color of real wood and the opportunities for diversity are never ending. I must admit some woods are too soft, yet workable, and some are so hard that it would be easier to shape a brick. As long as I can stay somewhere in between I should be alright. I do like Redwood but it has gone through the roof like a rare key date MS70 so I tend to look for other rare woods occassionally that are affordable as I enjoy the opportunity to work with something different now and then! I am not very fond of making junk so I try to find something practical, needed that everyone else DOES NOT make. Shoot, I even turn out a wooden cremation urn now and then and, as far as I know, I am the only guy in the world that puts a keepsake drawer in a round wooden urn. They end up being very time consumming and in the end expensive and thats just from me! If you want to see sticker shock you should see what the funeral homes priced them at!!!

Never have worked with Fig or Pinion so that would probably be a treat. Why don't you email with some info concerning what you have on hand and of course the cost! Getting a little pecan would also be welcomed as well. Look forward to hearing from you and thanks for the offer!

Terry let me know the sizes of the pieces needed?

This wood as of right now is not milled to boards, so custom sizes of pieces can be done .to a point up to the limits of my tools .

Price is shipping .

Thickness, length and width?

Rick

Terry,

I checked them out. In my opinion they have class -- real class. Does the ANACS fit the old holder or the new one..? I'm thinking of ordering one for a 1817 bust half dollar that would look great sitting on my deak.

Catman you should check about Tuesday as another shipment is on the way to Susan. You will have two wood options to choose from at that time. Appreciate the encouraging words and more holders are now in progress.

I must assume it would be the new Anacs holder as I am not sure when they changed sizes? My holder is less than 4 years old that I am using for my pattern. Let me know what size you have or email the measurements and I can go from there.

The holders look beautiful

In Australia the popular wood for holders cases and display is the Australian Jarrah Wood
