to the forum. Id start with nickels and if you then want to do dimes you can do both denominations, just remember to get all the old nickels and not just those ones you said you like. Do dimes as much as you can really because silver is a good thing to have a lot of and already having a hand full of them shouldn't be a concern. Here is a tip, when at the bank ask the teller for (unsealed) boxes of whatever your getting, that way the ARP-alloy recovery program will not have a negative effect on what you find. I don't know a lot about mission but an ideal dumping bank should be small so you don't contaminate the mix. Good luck!

A box of nickles is $100 face value.. there should be no cost extra in getting a whole box... I don't know what a dime box will cost.. but quarters are $500 to a box.

My suggestion is to use one bank that rolls their own change to draw from and use a different bank to dump at.. less chance of getting the same coins.

I pick up one box of nickles and quarters every week... and soon will do dimes if I can find the time... It's fun and a cheap way to at least get really good examples of current dates...

I keep all nickles that are '81 and earlier... so far the earliest nickel I have found is a '49 in F condition. I do occasionally find stuff from the 60's and up in BU condition which is nice.

I also keep all U.S. coinage.. b/c every year I make a trip down to the states... I am going to open an account in the states and just dump my U.S. coin there and exchange it for cash... It works out to be only a couple hundred dollars in U.S. coin per year.. but with this exchange rate.. that's just like free money gained...

So much info to give you, starting out, I would suggest buying rolls from different banks or branches, you will need to find a bank that gets a lot of CWR customer wrapped rolls. Not every bank gets lots of these. Then use that bank as your pick up bank. Then figure out a bank where to dump them, preferably far away from pick up bank.

Remember the real key to getting good finds is your relationship with the tellers, make sure you talk up what you are doing and why. Also I like to take some of my more unique finds in from time to time to show the tellers, give a bit of coin knowledge or history to them. Then they start rooting for you to find good stuff, and you get better rolls and then better finds.

Also, after 4 years of doing this, I wished I kept track of how much I searched and what I found, so I would suggest this to as well.

Lastly with roll hunting it's really about volume, so if you are only doing 10 to 20 rolls a week, don't be discouraged if you don't find a lot of good stuff.
