K 333 WILFRED AND ISOLDE WECKHERLIN, Birth Medal, 1924, Cast Bronze, 44.0mmX53.0mm, 40.70g., Edge punched "KGoeTz", RR.

Goetz:--K-333,-1924-Birth-Medal

This was a birth medal for the twins born to the violin teacher of Goetz' children.

Obverse: WILFRED VND ISOLDE WECKHERLIN with füllhorn, symbolizing peace and prosperity, a violin with musical notes and Viertelpause in reference to Herr Weckherlin's profession.

Reverse: GEBOREN IN MÜNCHEN 8-APRIL 1924, Young twins with Isolde holding a flower on the left and Wilfred clasping her left hand with his. Both are standing atop a zodiac with the sun rising in Taurus. "K.G." can be found in the bottom right of the exergue.

Goetz was known for creating personalized medals, medallions and plaquettes for his friends and close acquaintances, this being one such example.

A note should be made that Goetz erred in placing the sun in Taurus of the zodiac. April 8th would have actually had the sun in Aries, the Ram's sign. I have noted that a number of birth medals have similar errors but not among his own children's birth medals.

Very nice medal. Goetz medals are always very interesting. Hoping to add some to my collection someday.
